Meet the Vice President of Communications & Marketing

Paula Fleming, Vice President of Communications & Marketing - Ms. Fleming joined the BBB in 2003 as Director of Communications and became the chief media contact and spokesperson for the BBB. Appointed to Vice President of Communications and Marketing in 2005, Ms. Fleming’s position now includes overseeing all BBB marketing.

Ms. Fleming has led the BBB to numerous communications successes. She coordinated the BBB’s educational campaign against Identity Theft, which BBBs throughout the Bureau system now use as a resource for their Identity Theft campaigns. Ms. Fleming also founded a monthly local television program called “The BBB Today”, which addresses a variety of issues facing the business and consumer communities.

The BBB has won numerous awards under Ms. Fleming’s leadership. In 2005 the Bureau won three Outstanding Bureau Awards (sponsored by the Council of Better Business Bureaus) for Public Awareness – Overall Communications, Special Projects (internet Live Support), and Internet Based or Related Programs (new Online Complaint Management System). In 2004 the Bureau won four Outstanding Bureau Awards for Investigations (advance fee loan scams), Advertising Review (focusing on the vitamin supplement industry), Public Awareness (Identity Theft Campaign), and Internet Programs (Member Only Section of www.bosbbb.org). The Bureau also won an Associations Advance America award, sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives, for the educational Identity Theft campaign coordinated by Ms. Fleming. In 2003 the Bureau won three Outstanding Bureau Awards for the BBB’s Employee Intranet, Monthly New and Renewal Member Payment Plans, and for most BBBOnline Gold Seal new participants within the year.

Prior to joining the Bureau, Ms. Fleming was an associate at Collaborative Insight, where she was responsible for implementing marketing and public relations programs for technology and education clients. Before joining Collaborative, Ms. Fleming assisted management in developing and implementing marketing programs at Feinstein Kean Healthcare, a pharmaceutical public relations agency. Ms. Fleming earned a Bachelor of Science in Corporate Communications from Plymouth State College in New Hampshire.

Ms. Fleming is a member of the Publicity Club of New England, the oldest professional organization for public relations, communications, special events, and marketing professionals in New England; The Public Relations Society of America, which sets comprehensive standards for the public relations community to benefit the public interest, and to be performed with honesty, integrity, accuracy, and truth; The National Consumer Coalition, which believes that a market economy benefits consumers by expanding consumer choice and competition and fostering innovation; The International Association of Business Communicators, a non-profit global network of communications specialists committed to improving the effectiveness of their profession, holding members to a socially responsible Code of Ethics; and The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, a broad-based association representing more than 1,700 businesses of all sizes. Ms. Fleming recently completed training with the Disney Institute, recognized leader in experiential training, leadership development, benchmarking and cultural change for business professionals across the globe.
